Council Venturing Forums

Venturing Forums are held three times a year, and are a great resource and fun opportunity for your entire Venturing crew.  Each forum includes a chance to get to know fellow Venturers from across the council and features a program packed with ideas and opportunities for your crew to take advantage of and implement into its annual program plan.  The council’s youth Venturing officers take the lead in driving this program and making it a great experience for both the youth and adults in the Venturing program.  Bring the whole crew or ship – and prospective Venturers!  Venturing Forums are held at the Cockrell Scout Center at 7:00 pm.

Bring your crew, your friends and potential Venturing young adults! Meet and make new friends at Venturing Rendezvous.  There are activities and games, a shooting simulator, canoeing and games on the water; duck launch, Dutch oven cooking, annual pony races, and much, much more.  There is ample area for you to “show-and-tell” about your crew and how you have fun!  Bring your snacks and lunch, spend the day or your crew can plan on spending a weekend camping.

Kodiak Challenge Course

Accept the Challenge!  Kodiak: the next level of leadership development.  Kodiak Challenge is designed to be an adventure that pushes your boundaries, but one that has its underpinnings in the application of the leadership skills learned in Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews, NYLT, and/or NAYLE.   It is an adventure with a purpose. Prerequisites for Venturers is Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews, or National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). Prerequisites for Boy Scouts or Varsity Team members is NYLT; National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE) is a plus.

Scout Fair

April 18, 2015 from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Council Venturing Committee

The council has a great committee supporting the Venturing Officers Association (VOA).  If you are interested in becoming more involved at the council level, consider joining one of our committee meetings.  We generally meet one month prior to our main events (e.g., Venturing Rendezvous, Venturing Summit) at 7:00 pm at the Cockrell Scout Center.

Venturing Summit and Awards Banquet

August 2015

The Venturing Summit is the end-of-the-summer activity for all Venturers, Sea Scouts and your friends who are thinking about joining the program.  Make it a full weekend, just a day, or a night and a day activity. Venturers can camp, or just enjoy a long summer day. The Venturing Summit is being held at Bovay Scout Ranch and offers a chance to relax, do as much, or as little as you want, visit with old friends and make new friends, enjoy meals prepared for you, and of course, engage in a lot of fun activities.
There will be a full slate of aquatic activities – small boat sailing and rowing, slip & slide, and more.  Just outside the open-air dining hall will be field sports like kick-ball and volleyball and Guitar Hero challenge!  Geocaching is bigger and better this year with even more candy and additional challenges.  Game on!  And remember, we kick-off Friday night with a movie.

If you are interested in a leadership position in the Venturing Officers Association, then the Summit is the place for campaigning.  Elections will be held on Saturday for the offices of council venturing president, vice-president of program, and vice-president of administration.  We will follow the procedures outlined in the VOA By-Laws.  Be sure you bring your VOA nomination form (signed by your crew or ship advisor).  Saturday evening is a very special time.  There is the annual awards banquet where your peers and leadership will be presented with recognition for their work in the Venturing and Sea Scout programs.  At the banquet the new Venturing Officer’s Association leadership will be announced.
