This council climbing committee is dedicated to providing quality training and activities above and beyond the basic camping experiences of the Boy Scouts of America.

Training: The council climbing committee offers several different level of climbing/rappelling courses that begin with a tower course at El Rancho Cima, and finish with a real rock course at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. The adult courses are offered twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. Youth equivalent courses are also offered.

The committee offers a two-day informative workshop, which is designed to train instructors in BSA's "Climb on Safely", and how to effectively supervise climbing/rappelling activities at SHAC climbing towers. Individuals who satisfactorily demonstrate the skills necessary to be an instructor will receive "tower instructor" status.

Topping Out is a real rock climbing course for beginners. The instructors teach about anchors, anchors and more anchors. Participants must have completed the basic course. After successful completion of both courses, participants receive a BSA climbing instructor card.

Youth Topping Out is a Topping Out instructor training class for youth, male and female, who have a desire to become BSA trained "climbing/rappelling instructors-in-training." The class consists of an evening meeting before the tower class, a two-day tower class at El Rancho Cima, followed by another event class before the two-day Real Rock Class at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, near Fredericksburg, TX. The students should have a desire to advance climbing instructor skills to be applied for unit climbing/rappelling activities or possibly for council summer camp staff work.

There will be a meeting at the Council office from 6:30-9:00 pm prior to both the Tower Course and the Real Rock course.
