Texas Skies District Roundtable

roundtableRoundtable is a district monthly meeting typically held the second Thursday of the month at Holy Covenant United Methodist Church (22111 Morton Ranch Rd, Katy, TX 77449) at 7:00 pm to help unit leaders plan and carry out their own program. Roundtable is a form of supplemental training for volunteers. The objective of roundtable is to give leaders program ideas, information on events and training opportunities, and an opportunity to share experiences and enjoy fun and fellowship with other Scouting leaders. As a result of the roundtable experience, unit leaders will be inspired, motivated, informed, and able to provide a stronger program for their Scouts. IOLS Training

trainingTraining is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, and a whole lot more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be! IOLS: Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (S11) Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank.  Topics covered: • Campsite Selection • Ropes – Whipping, Tying, and Lashing • Wood Tools – Knife, Camp Saw, and Ax • Fire Site Preparation and Building • Cooking • First Aid • Plant and Animal Identification • Packing and Hiking Techniques • Map and Compass • Leave No Trace. The training encompasses a weekend.

Cuboree

October 6-8, 2023

cuboreeCuboree is a weekend campout for Cub Scouts and their families.  Test out your carnival game-playing skills in this weekend event for Cub Scouts (kindergarten through 5th grade) and their families to kick off the Scouting year. Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos Scouts and their families can camp with their pack for the weekend or just attend the Saturday activities.

Packs will be assigned a campsite. After the opening flag ceremony on Saturday morning, the Cub Scouts will rotate as a pack through stations completing fun and wacky team-building activities as part of carnival games! Each pack will compete to earn points with awards being given at the campfire. Packs are encouraged to practice their favorite skit or song to perform at the campfire on Saturday evening.

Angler Classic

Calling all anglers for the ultimate fishing tournament for Scouts in troops, crews and ships at Camp Strake. Armed with fishing rods, Scouts in troops will have a chance to showcase their skills and reel in the big catch in the spirit of friendly competition. Scouts can attend individually for the day; units can camp for the weekend.

Full Throttle

Full Throttle is a weekend event for Scouts in troops, crews, and ships. Scouts spend a half-day participating in program areas such as shooting sports, climbing, swimming, ziplining, and boating. Scouts will spend a half-day working on a merit badge. There will be six themed events held next year. Full Throttle is a great way for Scouts to have fun, learn new skills, and earn merit badges.

STEM Camp

STEM Camp is a new extraordinary opportunity for Scouts in troops, crews and ships to work on STEM-related merit badges and Nova awards. Scouts can engage in hands-on learning and explore exhilarating STEM programs, exhibits, and activities. If a Scout wants to learn more about science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, then this is the week to be at camp!

University of Scouting

University of Scouting is a semi-annual supplemental training program. Sessions are led by experienced volunteers who will help leaders and parents enhance their ability to deliver a fun and exciting program to the Scouts. Scouts in troops can take Den Chief and Troop Guide Training or merit badge classes.

Winter Camp

Winter camp is a wonderful opportunity for troops to camp and Scouts to earn merit badges and participate in fun evening program and activities There are over 80 merit badge classes taught by Scouters with real-life experiences in the field. Similar to summer camp, Super Troop is being added for individual Scouts.

Summer Camp 2024

Summer Camp is a week-long council-organized overnight camp for Scouts in troops that operates under council-retained leadership. There are unique programs for first-year Scouts and experienced Scouts. Summer camp is held at Camp Strake, a first-class and state-of-the-art facility for Scouts and their leaders. Program areas include shooting sports (rifle, shotgun, archery, sporting arrows), climbing, rappelling, boating (canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, rowing), swimming, ATV riding, ziplining, cycling, merit badge classes and more.
