In 2009, the Sam Houston Area Council developed a Properties Master Plan in preparation for the next 100 years. From this plan, the need to conduct a campaign to raise $40,000,000 for capital improvements and increasing our endowment was identified in order to achieve our Camping Vision Statement: “To provide Exemplary, Sustainable Outdoor Experiences and Creative Learning for 21st Century Youth and Their Leaders.” Each of us are Eagle Scouts, have also served as Chairman of the Board of the Sam Houston Area Council and understand the importance of the Scouting program in our community. In 2012, we agreed to co-chair this new campaign and to provide leadership with initial gifts, which totaled $10,500,000. In 2014, the campaign, which is called Leaders of Tomorrow, began the quiet phase. Since that time, many wonderful accomplishments have been achieved through this campaign. David M. Weekley Frank D. Tsuru John B. Walker Howard T. Tellepsen, Jr. Purpose and Objective of the Campaign Scouting prepares young men and women for life and develops leaders with values based on the Scout Oath and Law. The Leaders of Tomorrow campaign objectives revolve around six pillars that will help us develop young men and women of today into strong, honorable, and dedicated leaders for the future. These pillars include Sustainability, Healthy Living, Leadership Development, Education, Urban & Hispanic Needs, and Workforce Development. By placing a strong focus on these pillars and the objectives laid out in our 2013-2017 strategic plan, we will better prepare youth for life and have future leaders in whom we can count on. The generosity that donors and supporters like you have shown to the Council throughout this campaign has been truly humbling. As of August 1, 2016, the campaign has raised $23,912,645 in pledges (59%) with most being paid over a four-to five-year period. In the pages that follow, we will detail the ways we have been using your gifts to make great strides on our camp improvement projects…strides that will ultimately enhance our ability to create the confident and committed leaders of tomorrow that our communities, states, nation and world so desperately need. Thank you for your support of Scouting and this campaign, which is critical to our ability to continue to lead youth to lifelong values, service and achievement for the next 100 years. – 1 –
