It is located between New Waverly and Coldspring near the community of Evergreen, Texas. Lake Livingston is 10 miles east of the property. The camp is a 1.5- hour drive from downtown Houston. It sits between I-45 and Highway 59 with convenient access from the Grand Parkway. Camp Strake is surrounded on three sides by the Sam Houston National Forest and has the Lone Star Hiking Trail close to one corner of the property. Camp Strake will be a transformational outdoor adventure experience that will equip young people with a foundation for leadership. The new Camp Strake will be first-class and state-of- the-art for Scouts and their leaders with two distinct sections: • Scout camp developed for weekend and resident camp operations for Boy Scouts and Venturers; and • Leadership Institute for advanced training programs for adult leaders and Boy Scouts and Venturers. The Leaders of Tomorrow campaign will provide only a portion of the funding needed ($11,300,000) to develop Camp Strake. The total budget of the new Camp Strake is $65,253,415 and funded primarily from the proceeds of sale of the old Camp Strake property and other assets of the council. Construction is planned for completion in 2019 with a grand opening that summer for Boy Scout summer resident camp. The new Camp Strake has an endowment to provide annual funds for its maintenance and to keep it in first-class condition. – 7 –
