Youth Protection training is designed to help you keep our youth safe from abuse. You will learn the Boy Scouts of America’s
Youth Protection Guidelines, signs of abuse, and how to report suspected abuse. After each section of material, you will answer questions about that section’s topic. This course must be completed by all registered leaders, and is highly recommended for parents and other adults working with youth.

Going to a Licensed Youth Camp in the State of Texas?
Texas Department of state Health Services requires all camp staff members (volunteer and paid) plus any adult attending a camp complete a classroom facilitated Youth Protection Training Course in order to attend a licensed Summer Resident Camp or Summer Day Camp.
To satisfy this state requirement, the Sam Houston Area Council will offer classroom facilitated Boy Scouts of America Youth Protection Training several times this spring. A schedule of classes offered throughout the Council are at the link below.
Te classroom Facilitated Youth Protection Training will be good for two years from the date of completion.

Effective June 1, 2010: New Youth Protection Policy
To increase awareness of youth protection and to create even greater barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting, the Boy Scouts of America is implementing several important changes to further enhance its Youth Protection policies.
- Youth Protection training is required for all registered volunteers.
- New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training withing 30 days of submitting an application for registration.
- Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be re-registered.
- NOTE: The Youth Protection Quiz (training code Y00), formerly available via MyScouting, is no longer a valid course. Adults with this code will be required to retake Youth Protection Training prior to recharter.

How to Complete Youth Protection Training
Scouters may complete this training module through the "
MyScouting" portal. First-time users to MyScouting must set up an account and password. From the MyScouting.org portal, click on E-Learning and take the Youth Protection training. Download a copy of the

New Leaders
You do not have to be a registered member or have a member ID to take Youth Protection training. Set up an account as above. Upon completion, you may print a certificate of completion to submit with your BSA adult volunteer application. When your volunteer application is approved, you will receive a BSA membership card which includes your membership ID number. After you receive your membership card, log back into MyScouting, click on My Profile, and update the system by inputting your member ID. This will link your Youth Protection training records, and any other online training you have taken in MyScouting, to your BSA membership.

Texas Youth Camp Safety Act
The Classroom Facilitated version of Youth Protection Training is required every 24 months for adults (over the age of 18) attending a licensed youth camp in the state of Texas, to include but not limited to:
- Summer camp (Boy Scouts)
- Winter camp (Boy Scouts)
- Summer Adventure Camp (Cub Scouts/Webelos Scouts)
- Day Camp (Tiger Cubs/Cub Scouts/Webelos Scouts)
