Walter Scout Camp at Horseshoe Bend

Walter Scout Camp at Horseshoe Bend is located a half mile due west of the main gate of El Rancho Cima. At Walter Scout Camp at Horseshoe Bend, life here is a little more laid back as in the days of the Old West. Your transportation here is a little different from city life, with over 40 horses to choose from. You may encounter many cowboys that will always greet you with a friendly, "Howdy".

Walter Scout Camp at Horseshoe Bend  has a variety of unique programs that include horseback riding, rodeo, trips to the meadow, and of course the spectacular hike to Sentinel Peak. Our merit badge program includes shooting sports, ecology, conservation, aquatics (pool only), handicrafts and much more. On-line merit badge registration will begin in early April.

The Council's Camping Committee is pleased to announce that Jordan Daniels will be the Camp Director in 2012. Jordan is an experienced Summer Camp Staffer and a proven leader. He is currently a doctoral student at Texas A&M University and a football coach. Jordan brings to camp a wealth of experience in summer camp operations, programming and customer service.

ONLINE MERIT BADGE REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN AT 9:00am ON APRIL 1^st. To save time, the Troop Registrar should enter Scout’s name on registration in preparation for Merit Badge selection prior to April 1st.

VERY IMPORTANT: ONLY THE PERSON THAT SIGNED UP THE TROOP (THE TROOP REGISTRAR) CAN REGISTER FOR MERIT BADGES AS IT REQUIRES A USER NAME AND PASSWORD THAT THEY SETUP DURING REGISTRATION. EACH SCOUT CANNOT REGISTER FOR THEIR CLASSES!!

Attached is the 2012 Merit Badge Schedule for Walter Scout Camp at Horseshoe Bend. Each Troop Registrar was sent the” How to register using the Double Knot System” document. To help you prepare for the online merit badge registration please read the following information.

1. Have each Scout select 8 merit badges they would like to earn at camp by priority
2. Each Scout must be named in the Double Knot system to select merit badges for them. (Troop Registrar must do this)
3. You can select up to 5 merit badges for each Scout, but this will provide a couple of alternatives just in case some classes are full
4. Eagle Scout required merit badges and Shooting Sports fill up fast.
5. There are no waitlist for classes
6. At Walter Scout Camp at Horseshoe Bend , if you have Scouts participating in Fortress Mountain Brigade (First Class Emphasis Program), select Fortress Mountain Brigade and they will need to also select 1 Merit Badge to take during the 2:30pm time period.
