Training is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. The important Scouting position you hold will be easier and more effective once you develop the skills necessary to deliver a quality scouting program every Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venturer desires. University of Scouting is a training for leaders of all program areas to come together for a day of fun, fellowship and learning.  University of Scouting has over 100 different classes, presented by some of the most experienced volunteers in the council covering leader specific training, information on how to train youth, conservation, program ideas and more.  University of Scouting also offers several youth courses.

Leave No Trace Trainer Course

March 4-6, 2016

This 16-hour, overnight course is for individuals, ages 14 and up who wish to serve as Leave No Trace trainers. Trainers are the backbone of Scouting’s outdoor ethics program, providing instruction to individuals and units wishing to adopt cutting edge outdoor ethics into their unit programs. Trainers are specially commissioned to teach the BSA Leave No Trace 101 course and to qualify individuals for the BSA Leave No Trace Awareness Card.

Completion of this course or another recognized Leave No Trace Trainer course is required for a youth to hold the Boy Scout/Varsity Scout Leave No Trace Trainer position of responsibility in their unit. Each BSA Trainer course is taught by a recognized Leave No Trace Master Educator, so your Trainer standing is recognized nationally be BSA’s partner, the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. 

Participants receive a Leave No Trace Trainer card from BSA, BSA Leave No Trace 101 Course Guide, and Leave No Trace Trainer certificate from the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics.

March 18 - 20 and April 8-10 2015 (begins Friday at 7:30 AM, ends Sunday at 5:00 PM) 


Wood Badge is the premier adult leader training program in Scouting.  The program highlights personal and unit level leadership development with courses in team building, problem-solving, communication, conflict resolution and many other useful skills.  Wood Badge is a six-day advanced training program which gives participants a greater understanding of Scouting aims and methods, while developing true Scout Spirit. Begins Thursday at 7:30 am, ends Saturday at 5:00 pm both weekends.

April 8-10 and April 22-24, 2016 

Powder Horn is an action-packed, hands-on, six-day course which helps Scouts and Scouters learn how to implement high adventure activities into their troop, crew or ship. Would you like to expose your troop, crew or ship to rock climbing, Dutch oven cooking, geocaching, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding, firefighting, search and rescue, trekking in a different countries, mountain biking, fly fishing, canoeing, wilderness first aid, astronomy, shooting sport (e.g., rifle, shotgun, handgun, archery), equestrian, 1860 baseball, wilderness survival, NYLT, Sea Scouts, the Kodiak Challenge, the Hornaday award, Messenger of Peace, living history, Leave No Trace, vendors, Jamboree, event planning, tying flies, scuba diving, and more?
