    Program Neighborhoods

    Program neighborhoods provide a wide variety of demonstrations, hands-on activities, and competitions throughout the day, built around a set of exciting themes.  Program neighborhoods will operate non-stop from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday.  Anticipated activities include:

    SHAC Jam Collectibles
    A series of SHAC Jam collectible wooden nickels representing the 12 points of the Scout Law and other aspects of Scouting will be distributed in each neighborhood throughout SHAC Jam -- to Boy Scout and Venturing youth only A limited number of complete sets will be on sale in the trading post for $15.00.

    Zone 1 – Scouting Skills & Thrills

    • High Adventure – Climbing walls, SCUBA training, and exhibits from BSA High Adventure bases.  
    Bring your swim suit if you plan to participate in SCUBA.
    • Physically Strong – Sports, athletic games, and a challenging obstacle course.
    • Scoutcraft – Pioneering towers, Scoutcraft games, survival training, and pumpkin chunkin’.
    • Cooking – Cooking demonstrations and competitions throughout the day.

    • Shooting Sports – Shotgun, archery, and black powder shooting.
    • Fun Zone – Live music, video games, inflatable games, and carnival atmosphere.
    Zone 2 – Scouting Expo – Looking Out At the World
    • Duty to Community – Police officers, firefighters, EMT/Rescue squads and all their cool vehicles, as well as mounted police unit and K9 squad.
    • Duty to Country - Military tanks, aircraft, and hardware, and the military personnel who operate them.
    • Duty to God – Interactive exhibits from various religious denominations.  There will be 12 different religious services on Sunday morning.
    • The Great Outdoors - Over 20 different conservation exhibits, including an interactive fishing program and some up close encounters with native wildlife.
    • Scouting Today – Major exhibits from Order of the Arrow, Sea Scouts, Venturing, as well as Council camps and other council committees and programs.
    • Motor Sports – Racecars provide the noise and rumble, while pinewood derby and pushmobiles supply the action.
    • Outdoor Store - See a wide variety of outdoor product retailers and vendors.
    • Adventures in Scouting – Exhibitors from museums, zoos, and other special features.
    Zone 3 – Village and Camp Life – Interpretive Programs
    • Indian Village – A collection of American Indian teepees set the tone for Indian drumming, dancing, and instruction in American Indian culture and crafts.
    • Cowboy Camp – Branding, blacksmithing, chuck wagon cooking, roping, buckskin games, and Buckaroo Band. 
    • Space Camp – Model rockets and “Area-51” encounter with aliens.
    • Highland Village – Scottish Highland games, demonstrations of jousting , sparring, and fencing, as well as cooking and crafts.
    • International Village – International flags, music, and displays.  Souvenirs from international Scouting adventures.
    Association of Top Achiever Scouts (ATAS) is an international organization with U.S. membership open to Eagle Scouts, Exploring/Venturing Silver Award recipients, and Gold Award Girl Scouts.  Membership is free.

    Pete Armstrong, the Inter-America Director of ATAS, will have a booth in the International Village accepting memberships. To join, Scouts will need to bring their NESA, Eagle Scout, or other award card with their member ID on it, as National will not be open to confirm numbers.
    • Radio City – Ham radio demonstrations are offset by hands-on challenges using Morse code and semaphore to communicate across camp.
    • Scouting through History – Brown Sea Island reenactment, Baden-Powell, Scouting memorabilia, and a special exhibit from Boys’ Life magazine showing the history of BSA.
    • Lumberjack Village – Burly lumberjacks will demonstrate life in the lumber camp, and Scouts will play lumberjack games.  
    Bring your swim suit if you want to try lumberjack birling -- you WILL get wet!!!!




    Special Events

    In addition to the ongoing programs in the neighborhoods, SHAC Jam will have several very special events throughout the day.  Some of the highlights of the special events include:
    • Fun Run – Scouts and adult leaders join in an early morning “fun run” around the two-mile racing oval.  
    • Military Helicopters – Experience the thrill of Apache helicopters flying into the program area and landing on the pit road. In the afternoon, the helicopters will fire up their engines and make an equally impressive exit from the program area.
    • Aircraft Flyovers – Throughout the day, Scouts will witness military, historic, and vintage aircraft in a series of aircraft flyovers.
    • OA Pow Wow – Indian dancing throughout the day will be topped by a late night Order of the Arrow Pow Wow, featuring the drumming, dancing, and singing of the Colonneh Lodge.
    • World Record Model Rocket Launch – Scouts have a chance to be part of a world record, as we attempt the simultaneous launch over 2,010 model rockets.  Email rocketry@shac.org for more information.  Order early -- only 3,200 rockets will be sold!

    Saturday Evening Show

    The largest event in Council history will include the biggest and best show in our history!  The grandstand opens at 7:00 PM for pre-show festivities that include music, videos, and special audience participation events.  At 8:00, the curtains go up on the “Big Show” which celebrates BSA’s 100th Anniversary.   Special features include a presentation by Jillian Clay, granddaughter of Baden-Powell, as well as a special recognition of the Colonneh Lodge 2010 Vigil class.  The show will be capped off by a live fireworks show!
