Attention all Sam Houston Area Council scouts and scouters! The next BSA National Jamboree will be held in July 2013 at the new Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in the mountains of West Virginia. This Jamboree will be the first at this premier new facility. For directions on how to register fill out the registration form and email to Jason.Oliver@shac.org. If you want to be part of breaking in the new site adjacent to the New River Gorge National River as part of the Sam Houston Area Council contingent, register TODAY!

There is a two-part registration process:
Parents will need to register their scouts at the Sam Houston Area Council by completing the Youth Application. The application will require a NON-Refundable $250 deposit fee. Once applications are completed, they must be printed out, approved and signed by the scout’s Scoutmaster, and returned to the Sam Houston Area Council (Attention: Jason Oliver) with the Non-refundable deposit, and the total due for that payment period. As of January 1st, 2013, all payments will have been paid on the scout's behalf and will not be refundable. Priority for selection will be based on date of receipt of completed applications and deposits. The deposit will be credited towards the full payment for participation in the contingent. At this time, the individual cost for participation in the council contingent will be $2150, which includes transportation to and from the Jamboree site, food and lodging during travel. Additional information and reminders will be sent out as needed through Jamboree accounts registered with the Council. This Jamboree is shaping up to be one of the most exciting ever, and will bring with it many new firsts. See you at the Summit!
Parents MUST go to http://Summit.Scouting.org/and register their scouts online at the National Jamboree Site. Two profiles will need to be completed - one for the parent and one for the youth. Parents will also need to know their scout's BSA ID# in order to register. Once completed properly, the dashboard will show you at 30% until you get a response from the council approving your application. This website will be where you make your program selections and receive your 2013 NSJ Medical Forms to be filled out by and signed by your scout's physician.
Each troop will include a Scoutmaster, and three Assistant Scoutmasters. One of the three Assistants will be between 18-21 years old. Scouts will be placed into one of the eight council troops during the Spring of 2013.
