NEWS RELEASE FROM COCKRELL HALL
The 2011 Commissioner College is now history and was a great success. A record 260 registrants firmly establishes this College into the SHAC training portfolio and guarantees that this event will continue to provide the foundation for commissioner training into the next Century. The theme “Graduate with Honors” set the tone for commissioners to utilize their skills gained and adapt to the changes occurring in scouting and their role in supporting units. Dr. John Lea, Southern Region President, who provided the commencement address, reinforced this focus.
During Saturday’s event, 23 Distinguished Commissioners were recognized for their achievements. With the new college many commissioners were recognized for their commissioner educational pursuits by receiving commissioner college degrees. The Bachelor of Commissioner Science was awarded to 86 commissioners, the Master of Commissioner Science was awarded to 26 commissioners, and 3 Doctorate of Commissioner Science degrees were awarded.
Also announced at the commencement ceremony was the Dean for the 2011 Commissioner College, Farrell Gerbode. Farrell will start making preparations now for the next commissioner college which will be held on the first Saturday in December , 2012.
All students who attended the Commissioner College will have transcripts recorded in the near future.
A heartfelt thank you to the faculty and staff for their efforts in making this second annual Commissioner College a huge success, and our sincere appreciation to all of the students for making this a record breaking year.
