(Scouts Helping At Camp) Unit Work Weekends at Camp
It was unfortunate that we had to cancel the February 17-19, 2012 weekend due to weather. SHAC Corps has been rescheduled for March 9-11, 2012 at Bovay Scout Ranch. If your schedule will allow you to attend, please register on Doubleknot, just as you did for the February 17-19, 2012 SHAC Corp date. We realize that everyone has a bery busy schedule and that some of those who planned to come in February will not be able to come on the re-scheduled date. Because of this, we will not be automatically transferring your registration from the February date to the March SHAC Corp date. If your unit was not previously registered for this event, but can attend now, please register on the link below.
SHAC Corps is an opportunity for troops and crews to give back to camp in the form of a day of service. The Order of the Arrow is leading this opportunity, but this service project is open to all Boy Scouts and Venturers. All you have to bring is your personal camp gear. Camp is providing the food and a special Shoulder Patch that will only be available to those who provide service. There will be a different patch at each SHAC Corps weekend. You can attend more than one weekend to collect all five CSP’s. To get the 6th patch, you must attend all 5 SHAC Corps weekends. Service projects will include creating new campsites and clearing new programs areas for activities. Letters will be given to youth who need school service hours. Units or individual Arrowmen may register.

Scouts Helping At Camp (SHAC) Corps has exceeded all expectations for this program's innaugural year in 2011. What happens when you have 600 plus Scouts and Scouters give of their time and talents over five weekends at El Rancho Cima? You get 6,000 plus hours of service to the Camp, valued at more than $60,000 in man hours alone. SHAC Corps was youth-lead by the OA members, but non-OA Scouts and Scouters were also welcomed. Each participant received a special limited edition shoulder patch (CSP) that was customized for each week. OA members from the Raven Chaper participated in all five of the SHAC Corps weekends, thus they collected the full set of CSPs for their service. There was a lot of Boy Power employed during SHAC Coprs. But like any good event, it wasn't all work either. Participants had free meals, incredible cracker barrels and a few fun games and a movie thrown in as well. SHAC Corps was a great success, and there is definitely a feeling of volunteer ownership of our camps. There was also great support from the volunteer leaders, camp staff and rangers that kept folks equipped and fed over the five weekends.
