Hamman Scout Camp
Located in one of the most naturally beautiful areas of Bandera, TX, the 965 acre Hamman Scout Camp, a gift from the Hamman Foundation in 1990, is a prime site to plan a Hill Country campout. This property offers older Boy Scout Troops and Venturing Crews an excellent backpacking adventure. Hamman Scout Camp is a primitive rustic location providing no amenities to units utilizing this area. Units will need to bring in all supplies for their activities including water. Ranger or caretaker support is not available at this camp. You will gain access to the property through a combination lock on the entrance gate. The code will be emailed to you the week of your activity.
Hamman Scout Camp is located approximately 10 miles west of Bandera. From Houston take I-10 west to San Antonio on the south side, take State Hwy 90 west to Castroville/Hondo. DO NOT TAKE THE BANDERA HIGHWAY 172. Continue through Hondo to the Tarpley road FM 462. Turn right on FM 462 and follow until it dead ends into FM 470. You will be in Tarpley, TX. Turn right and go approximately 5 miles, just before the Tarpley pass the camp gate is the last gate on the right. This is the easiest route.
You can also take 1-10 west to Loop 410 either direction to Hwy 15 (Bandera Highway). Take Hwy 16 north to FM 470, turn left and follow 470 for 6.5 miles through Tarpley Pass. The camp is the first gate on the left after Tarpley Pass.
