The BSA National Jamboree will be held in July 2017 at the new Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in the mountains of West Virginia. This Jamboree was the first at this premiere new facility. The new site is adjacent to the New River Gorge National River and will be host to all future National Jamborees, as well as host the 2019 World Jamboree. Summit Bechtel will also serve as a National High Adventure Camp.
The 1st of future National Jamborees in July 2013 was host to over 30,000 scouts and volunteers from all over the nation and other countries. The Sam Houston Area Council participated with 325 members for the Council Contingent, as well as nearly 100 volunteers who staffed the event.
Our scouts who participated started their trek with a 3 day tour of Washington, D.C. before heading up to the Summit where they had 9 days of activities ranging from Shooting Sports, Mountain Biking, Zip-lining, Rock Climbing, White Water Rafting and more! Our next Jamboree will begin registering early 2016 and leadership selection process will start in 2015. Please be sure to contact the council as the dates approach for more information.
