On behalf of the Sam Houston Area Council, we invite you to join an inaugural "Gathering of Eagles" on the evening of April 30, 2008 in Continental Airlines' new hangar at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.

Governor Rick Perry, a distinguished Eagle, will address our group and share his enthusiasm and support for the Scout movement in Houston.  Governor Perry will be joined by Lt. Col. James Smith of the 147th Fighter Squadron based at Ellington Field, who will pilot his F-16 jet fighter to the event and allow us to climb into the cockpit and get an inside look at this modern military marvel. Hors d'oeuvres and other refreshments will be served.

As you know, the special achievement of receiving the Eagle Scout award belongs to a select group of individuals.  A disproportionate number of Eagle Scouts occupy significant positions of distinction, responsibility and leadership.  As repeatedly demonstrated by many before us -- and those among us -- attaining the Eagle Scout award is not the end or culmination of a Boy Scout's career; rather, it is just the start.  It is in receiving the Eagle Scout award that our service to Scouting truly begins.

The 2008 Gathering of Eagles will be an opportunity for local Eagle Scouts to learn how they can support the Council's program of Leading Youth to Lifelong Values, Service and Achievement.  In serving approximately 100,000 young people in our community, the Council needs your involvement with its Friends of Scouting and Legacy Campaigns, as well as your personal re-engagement in the hands-on work of Scouters.

Mark your calendars for April 30, 2008 at 6:30PM and join us for this inspiring and motivating event.  Registration for this Gathering of Eagles is exclusively for Eagles, and registration ended on April 25, 2008.  Directions to the event are provided above.  We look forward to your company.
