 CUB SCOUT ADVANCEMENT

The Cub Scout advancement plan provides fun for the boys, gives them a sense of personal achievement as they earn badges, and strengthens family understanding as adult family members work with boys on advancement projects.  Requirements become progressively more challenging at each age level, matching the increased skills and abilities of a boy as he grows older.

Completion of Tiger Cub, Bobcat, Wolf, and Bear requirements is approved by the boy's parent or guardian. Completion of the Webelos requirements is approved by the Webelos den leader or the Webelos den leader may assign someone else to approve it (such as a parent, resident camp counselor, activity badge counselor, or teacher).  The adult's standard for completion of any requirement should be based on the Cub Scout motto, "Do Your Best."

  • Bobcat badge - All boys must earn the Bobcat badge prior to completion of the badge for their age group.  As of June 1, 2006, this includes Tiger Cubs.
  • Tiger Cub badge – First grade (or 7 years old)
  • Wolf badge– Second grade (or 8 years old)
  • Bear badge– Third grade (or 9 years old)
  • Webelos badge – Fourth and fifth grades (or 10 years old)
  • Arrow of Light Award - Fifth grade (or 10-and-a-half years old)
