Powder Horn is an action-packed, hands-on, six-day course on high adventure resources to help Scouts and Scouters learn how to implement high adventure activities into their troops or crews. Adult leaders from all Scouting programs and Scouts age 16 and older are eligible to attend; and there are no restrictions on attending the course a second time. The course spans two 3-day weekends: weekend #1 will be held on April 10-12, 2015 and weekend #2 will be April 24-26, 2015.

Order of the Arrow (OA) Ordeal and Brotherhood Walk Armand Bayou Nature Center

Boy Scouts who were elected into the Order of the Arrow (OA) by their troop must complete an ordeal within one year, in order to become a member of Colonneh Lodge. A Brotherhood walk and ceremony are held at 3:00 pm on Saturday. After 10 months of service as an Ordeal member and after fulfilling certain requirements, an Order of the Arrow member may take part in the Brotherhood ceremony, which places further emphasis on the ideals of Scouting and the Order.

Arrowman Bash is a weekend event held each spring, that allows Arrowmen to recommit themselves to the principles of our order: brotherhood, cheerfulness and service. Houston Astros Scout Educational Day Minute Maid Park

In addition to a discounted Astros game, Scouts are invited to a special pre-game presentation featuring athletic trainers from Houston Methodist. Some Scouts might even be able to earn requirements for their sports merit badge and sport belt loops. Tickets start at $15.

The following topics will be discussed: importance of the physical exam, maintaining a healthy diet, warming up and cooling down, weight training, differences between amateur and professional athletes, sportsmanship, exhibiting Scout spirit on and off the field, and being a good team leader. Hobby Airport, these exciting one-day programs serve as an excellent introduction for youth to aviation while helping them earn their Aviation Merit Badge*. Scouts will learn about the forces of flight, types of engines, and functions of aircraft instruments and control surfaces. Resident Camp includes activities such as: seeking treasure in the Lost Mine, archeological quest at the Dinosaur Dig, high speed pedal action at the BMX Bike Track, Robin Hood Style adventure at the Archery Range, marksmanship at Fort Bluebell’s BB Gun Range, action at the K.S. “Bud” Adams Sports Field, Pow Wow at the Indian Village, exploring camp at the Nature Center, and splashing in the water at the David Weekley Family Water Park.
